The Work We Do
The Children of Bahia is a small UK charity that has been set up to support street children in the state of Bahia in Brazil, and in particular homeless and impoverished children in and around the city of Salvador. One by one, we're trying to get children off the streets and into a loving home. Here are some of the projects we support.
The Wednesday Club - URGENT APPEAL!!
For almost 20 years, Projeto Criança Feliz (Happy Child Project) has supported vulnerable and street-connected children in Salvador, Brazil. Each week, children come together for a day of fun, friendship, good food, activities, practical support and care. For a few precious hours they can relax, play, feel safe and simply be children again.
The project is delivered by our trusted partner IBCM, a respected local charity that has been supporting vulnerable children and families in Salvador since 2007. Unfortunately, raising funds has become increasingly difficult and both Children of Bahia and IBCM are struggling to maintain this vital outreach and support.
Many children rely on this support, but we urgently need your help to keep it going.
Vovo Clara - Project Grandma Clara's Dream
This community child care centre”Grandma Clara’s Dream” is located in the neighborhood of Mata Escura, on the outskirts of the city of Salvador.
The objective of the centre is to provide children and adolescents in situations of extreme poverty with education and physical-social assistance, with the purpose of improving their physical and psychological development
IBCM (Instituto Benficiente Concição Macedo )
IBCM have been working in Salvador for 18 years and they focus on preventive work and aid to impoverished people. Many who live with HIV/AIDS. IBCM currently carry out the following work, but hope with our support to help many more people.
Other Projects
We support several other projects including education development programs. We also support 12 children and several families directly – we will post more details soon on this – This site is a bit under construction but we will develop it further and bring you more news on all the projects soon!!
